How long does it take to setup a new hosting account?Orders for new hosting accounts received during office hours (8am - 8pm) will be setup within 1 hour. As domain names generally take around 24 hours to configure, temporary server names and website addresses are provided on completion of account setup to allow you to begin using your hosting account immediately. Orders received outside office hours will be processed on the same day or on the following business day. TOP^ What security measures are in place to protect my website?Hacking of web-servers is a very real risk on the Internet. We monitor our servers and continuously log attempts to exploit vulnerabilities in common web-servers.TOP^ Web Sessions runs on GNU/Linux based systems, which have a substantially lower risk of being compromised than Windows based servers. All equipment is stored in a secure data center which incorporates 24 monitoring and alarm system, hardware based intrusion detection systems, firewalls, dry head fire suppression systems. The servers are configured to minimise the risk of hacking by running all programs as individual user accounts with only the required privelleges to perform the specific function of that program. Bugtraq mailing lists are continuously monitored and all security related patches are meticulously applied to services.TOP^ Can you host on Windows/Access/ASP web sites?No. All of our services run in Linux. We do use or host any Microsoft based products or services. Most static websites will run much better in a Linux environment, but if your website relies on any of the following technologies then we cannot host your site: Windows Active Server Pages (ASP) Access database Microsoft SQL server .NET TOP^ What service level guarantee is provided?A comprehensive service level agreement (SLA) is provided for all web hosting accounts and can be downloaded here in PDF format. Web Sessions operates all servers to ensure the maxmimum uptime possible. From time to time (typically 3-4 times per year) the servers will need to be taken offline to perform system and hardware upgrades. Such upgrades are performed at time of low usage. Redundancies are in place to assist maintain a high level of uptime, RAID drive arrays, redundant power sources, redundant links to the Internet backbone. Uptime for our web servers is currently > 99%. TOP^ Can I upgrade to a larger account?YES! At any time you can upgrade your site to a larger hosting account. We will simply calculate the difference in value for the remaining portion of hosting services which have been purchased and provide an invoice for the difference in value. What does disk space refer to? It is the amount of storage space you can use on our servers to hold all (webpages, images and scripts) files associated with your website. It means the amount of space that the files would take up on your computers Hard Drive.TOP^ What does data transfer refer to?Data transfer is the volume of information that is transferred to or from your website. Every time a visitor looks at your website data is transfered. TOP^ How much diskspace do I need for my website?Most business websites only need less than 5MB to store all of the files. Remembering that the average user on a 56Kbps modem connection can only download 12MB in 1 hour, if your site is much large than 5MB it will be too slow for people to download. The base account with 30MB diskspace is sufficient for 95% of all our clients.TOP^ Is 1 GB of data transfer enough?YES! Only very large or high volume websites will ever exceed 1 GB of data transfer in a month. An average business website would support up to 10,000 different people looking at their website every month and still not exceed 1GB of data transfer! The way we look at data transfer is that, if you ever have to pay for more data transfer your website will be generating so many benefits for your business that it will by far out weigh the cost of the excess data charges.TOP^ How is the total data transfer per month calculated?Total data transfer for your hosting account, includes data transfered via: Web Traffic - Visitors to your website FTP Transfer - Data transfered to/from your site using FTP Email - All email handled by our mail server 'Total data transfer' is the sum of both inbound and outbound data over the mediums listed above. TOP^ Multiple sites per hosting Account?For each hosting account you can only have one website. Each website can have multiple sections, pages etc. You can have as many domains as you like pointing to the one website, but all of the domains will point to the same home page on your website.TOP^ How do I add a database to my hosting account?In the control panel for your account you will find the option to create a PostgreSQL database. If you would like to create a MySQL database or add multiple databases to your account, please contact us.TOP^ How do I manage MySQL or PostgreSQL databases?phpMyAdmin and phpPgAdmin are both installed and accessible via the control panel for web based management of databases. You can also manage database via shell access using 'mysql' or 'psql' programs respectively.TOP^ Can I use htaccess, htpasswd to password protect files?Yes. .htaccess files can be placed in any directory of your hosting account to password protect them via the website. The control panel contains a graphical interface that can be used to create & manage usernames and passwords for htaccess files.TOP^ Can I host WAP content in my hosting account?Yes. Placing .wml files in your hosting account with appropriate content will enable WAP on your website.
